Landing Gear and Brakes
The gear saddle riveted to the boom tube, embedded
in PC-7 epoxy.
These are the Tracy O'Brien brakes, disassembled. Left
to right: brake cylinder, rear pad, disk, front pad. I've heard
really good things about these brakes, and I can see why they
work so well, with all the pad area.
Here are the brakes mounted. Special pins replace the
three bolts which normally hold the Azusa wheels together. These
pins slide into notches on the disk when you put the wheel onto
the axle.
I've gotten recommendations from many people on ways
to beef up the landing gear. Here you see that I've doubled the
gear cross-braces and put a steel sleeve over the gear leg where
the braces attach. The axles are also 3/4 inch instead of 5/8.
Here it is, standing tall on its completed gear.
