On July 28, 1996, after studying FAA Advisory Circular 90-89A (the Amateur-Built Aircraft & Ultralight Flight Testing Handbook) and double checking the CG, I started the taxi tests. After satisfying myself that all systems were working as well as could be determined on the ground I tightened the belts and the helmet and was off.
This is a shot captured from videotape of the first takeoff. After about 20 minutes of testing control response and trim, and checking stall speed with and without flaps, I brought it in for its first landing. Did a decent job too, considering it lands quite differently than the Coyote. I was used to holding a nose-high attitude, and this one lands much flatter.
So... I did a one point landing on the tailwheel. I've learned to use all three wheels together since then...
